Automatic Minimum Safe Altitude Digital Display
Questions and Answers
Q: Why is AMSADD free for so much information on minimum safe altitude?
A: Most of the larger avionics companies have
thousands of employees with a huge monthly payroll, plus retirement plans and medical benefits.
Further, in our opinion, the major avionics companies are more interested in
billion dollar profits by having lobbyists' make it mandatory that airlines and
high price corporate jets have the most expensive terrain warning system on
board.
The consideration toward general aviation is
completely ignored because the profits are just not there, in our opinion!
AMSADD is not greedy and truly wants to
prevent the second most cause of fatal accidents in general aviation in the
United States and elsewhere.
AMSADD has a very
small staff and MSA information is readily available from the FAA and other
government sources keeping our costs small. We want to finally solve the CFIT
problem for all aircraft. While reasonable profits are welcome, we want AMSADD
to be available to everyone, including future passenger and business aircraft.
Q. What type of onboard avionics are
required for AMSADD?
A: AMSADD does not require expensive hardware
for the displays. Your smart phone or I Pad that can receive GPS signals and a
touch screen is all that is
needed. There are certain technical requirements for your smart phone or I pad
that is presented on the "Specifications" page.
Q: Why do the other alleged terrain
warning systems not indicate the MSA and show the exact MSA in numbers? Also,
why do they not show where the aircraft will be ahead of the MSA?
A: This is our opinion that most of
the displays were designed by engineers, not pilots. Enough said!
Q: Many airports are below the listed
MSA. Is this not a false warning?
A: All approach charts show the MSA above
the airport elevation. While this information may be confusing, AMSADD allows a
lower MSA while in the airport area for VFR and IFR approaches and landings by
selecting APP on the display. If there is no instrument approach for an a VFR
airport, AMSADD opens and clears a visual approach on the display to keep from
giving a false warning like other systems do.
Q: Is AMSADD approved for aerial
navigation in the U.S.?
A: No, AMSADD is not intended to be a substitute
for standard navigation. AMSADD is intended to keep the crew from impacting the
terrain with the best terrain avoidance system available!
